Deepavali is the celebration of the New Year for some communities in India. It takes place around late Oct or early Nov. At my place we light beautiful lamps called Dias to usher in hope and Goddess Lakshmi to bless a household with prosperity... We also draw colourful patterns called Rangolis and burst crackers in celebration. Lots of sweets and new things are always a part of deepavali!
