You said it!

The title says it all... If anyone didnt get what i meant yet, i was referring to R.K. Laxman, arguably India's greatest cartoonist, who created 'The Common Man' that we see in the Times of India newspaper everyday....

A pioneer of satirical cartoons in India, his comics transcend decades and are still relevent in today's world... his comics bring out the protests that we suppress, the despair we common people sense, and all the other issues that suppress us every day.

His common man was created by him after many cartoons trying to depict the masses. After many trials, he finally hit upon this one man who we can relate to every single day.. He is witness to shady policics, corruption, household hassles,  and other such problems...

Penguin Books has published various collections of some of his best cartoons! I strongly recommend reading them. They give a real insight into the satirical humour that characterizes every single  cartoon which makes them evergreen!

Exams....

Exams are here again! I've always found exams very trying because i am not the type of person that sits down all the time to study or anything of the kind.... its especially tough because i haven't found a single subject interesting this semester...  I don't particularly like blogging about my complaints but i'm a bit cranky today so its coming out like this.

Well i guess i'll just tell myself that its another step towards what i want to be in life! But i don't know what yet, so that's empty reassurance all over again :( So in the end, i guess i can just tell myself that its all in the mind, and a little will power will help me succeed.... that again becomes like some of those motivation books some people like to read. Well... being grumpy isn't doing me any good so i guess i'll get back to studying... all the best to all who need it! especially me!

Deepavali - A festival of lights

Deepavali is the celebration of the New Year for some communities in India. It takes place around late Oct or early Nov. At my place we light beautiful lamps called Dias to usher in hope and Goddess Lakshmi to bless a household with prosperity... We also draw colourful patterns called Rangolis and burst crackers in celebration. Lots of sweets and new things are always a part of deepavali!

Why I Love Books

I have always thought that reading books requires a lot of imagination! Unlike movies where what you see is what u get, in books, you can decide how a character looks, you can imagine how the entire story unfolds; and if you're really passionate, you can picture what's being described in the book as if you're in that place, looking at it with your own eyes.

A lot of people say that books can be extremely boring and make you want to fall asleep. I can't understand such people because to me, books are the way I can travel to new worlds, explore the past and future, play detective, have a different career everyday, anything that I can imagine is possible! I can still read my Enid Blyton's, my Elinor M. Brent-Dyers, everything. Some people might call it childish; for me, its a way to de-stress!

I like the classics too - Shakespeare is brilliant and I really love Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice! I think I've read that book more times than i can count. Mysteries like the Perry Mason novels by Erle Stanley Gardner are also fascinating since they're an intense look at criminal law and a new and unconventional protagonist, where we find out how his ethics work and how far he'll go for a client!

Sea adventures by Clive Cussler are another attraction with the ruggedly handsome Dirk Pitt getting involved in life threatening situations in every chapter and a wealth of knowledge about the ocean can be obtained in his books like Raise the Titanic, Cyclops, Atlantis Found, Flood Tide and others!

I can go on and on about all my favourite books so I think I'll review some books each time i post and hopefully I'll inspire people to read books and share my passion for fiction!

New lease on life!

Hi

Its been several years since i have posted anything. My worst weaknesses drove me to silence. Writers block could be one excuse, or change within me, attributed to various factors. But then, humans have always found that the only way to move on is to forget the past and somehow reinvent the essence of yourself so that life looks good again.

So... i'm back to give life my best shot! Visit this page for thoughts, ideas, and an insight into the ravages of this human brain.

Also... share my passion for Books!
